Kids hooked on “digital heroin”

This picture links to a New York Post article by therapist Dr Nicholas Kardaras which says kids’ can develop harmful addictions to computers, video games and phones.

While kids are vulnerable, digital addiction can affect people of any age. As Dr Kardaras writes, “I have found it easier to treat heroin and crystal meth addicts than lost-in-the-matrix video gamers or Facebook-dependent social media addicts.”

 

 

Philosophy: Who Needs It

The following image links to an excellent video from the Ayn Rand Institute explaining why philosophy lies behind everyday actions – whether we’re aware of it or not.

The video features Ayn’s 1974 speech to the US Military Academy, telling us, in the engaging, vital way she was known for, that contrary to what many people think, philosophy has concrete practical consequences.

It doesn’t matter whether you agree with Ayn’s philosophy or not – or even whether you know who she is. But she makes a solid case for having a consistent, reasoned philosophy to help guide our lives.

That’s not really a logical question. Why? Because there’s no way to advance animal justice in the political system. The size and number of business, cultural, political and social structures in place will swat it out of the way. They have no place for it.

Parrot reads human mind

The following video outlines an experiment featuring N’kisi the talking parrot, ‘tuning in’ to the mind of his human companion.

Rupert Sheldrake introduces the video, which goes on to show N’kisi making comments related to photos his human is looking at in another room…

The results of the experiment were published in the Journal of Scientific Exploration, and are reproduced on Rupert’s website.

Ecorazzi uncommitted to facts?

Recently Ecorazzi published the article, A Proud Vegan’s Riposte to “The Vegan Cult” (which plays on the name Alex Proud, the author of a Telegraph piece on veganism which the article discusses).

I made a comment on this statement:

Mr. Proud, we are the only species that feeds on another’s mother’s milk and continues after weaning.
